Nanny state

My youngest son just learned to ride his bike. He wanted to just go out a few minutes ago to explore.

I have no problem with this. Growing up in Milton Mass,  the rule was you could be out on non school nights till the streetlights came on. My wife is fearful that someone will call the police if he is out by himself. I think I’ll ask the police.

Just spoke with the watch commander. He’s okay with an 8yo old riding his bike like I am.   He wears a helmet and is learning the rules of the road.

My wife heard some news stories about people upset by seeing a child unsupervised.  That’s one example of the Nanny State.   We don’t need a nanny state. We do need a village as it takes a village to raise a child.
